The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics – TFD (formerly Institute of Turbomachinery) is part of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The head of the institute since 2000 is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume.

At this time, the institute has more than 30 research assistants, collaborating with additional 22 additional employees in the machine shop and administration. The main research areas of TFD are thermal turbomachinery, renewable energy concepts and classical fluid mechanics, which are addressed in five working groups through public and industry-funded research projects.

In addition to the basic lectures in fluid mechanics, the TFD offers advanced courses in the fields of fluid mechanics, energy systems and power plant technology. The lectures are held by Prof. Seume as well as a number of external lecturers from industry and research.
