Aerodynamics of Vehicles

Students who have successfully completed the seminar will be able to assess the occurrence of characteristic flow phenomena such as detachments, dead-water areas and eddy-structures on a vehicle and to classify their consequences. They are able to interpret streamlines around blunt bodies on the basis of simple potential theory considerations.

Recommended for 6th semester

Content

  • The module contains unsteady and aeroacoustic effects, and conveys applied knowledge about experimental facilities and wind tunnel measurements.
  • Introductory knowledge about the topics of multi-body-systems, top-performance vehicles, track vehicles, side wind stability and slip-stream are conveyed.
  • After the successful conclusion of the module, the students can assess the appearance of characteristic flow phenomena like separation, recirculation, and eddy structures on a vehicle and categorize their consequences.
  • They are able to interpret streamline patterns around blunt bodies on the basis of simple consideration of potential theory.
