Master Laboratory Energy Technology

Within the framework of the key competence module "Master Laboratory", the Institute for Power Plant Technology and Heat Transfer (IKW) offers the "Master Laboratory Energy Technology" in cooperation with TFD. The aim of the laboratory is to apply and deepen theoretical basics acquired in the fields of fluid mechanics and heat transfer in practice. The training, execution and evaluation of the experiments is therefore carried out independently by the students, only under supervision.

All events of the module are held in German.

Goal

The Master Laboratory Energy Technology is divided into two experiments:

  • Power plant simulation (IKW)
  • Calibration of a five-hole probe (TFD)

The experiment offered by IKW includes, among other things, the simulation of the joint power plant "Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Hannover“ using commercial software for different load points.

When researching the flow in turbomachinery, data or measurements must be available that describe the flow processes in a turbomachine in a realistic manner. Various types of probes have been developed for measuring these quantities. For the three-dimensional measurement of the stationary flow, five-hole probes are used. These must be calibrated in advance. In the TFD part of the Master Laboratory Energy Technology a five-hole probe is calibrated.

The test is carried out on the Institute's own low speed calibration wind tunnel at TFD. Using modern measuring technology, the relevant calibration coefficients have to be determined from the measured pressures under variation of the flow angles. The calibration itself and the results are then documented and interpreted by the students in a laboratory report.

Specific Detail

Each participant is expected to work out the theoretical basics for the experiments and the practical instructions necessary to carry out the tests prior to the start of the laboratory with the help of the laboratory reprints.
