Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics

The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics – TFD (formerly Institute of Turbomachinery) is part of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Head of the institute since 2000 is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume.

At this time the institute has more about 40 research assistants, collaborating with additional 22 employees working in the machine shop and administration. The current research agenda of the TFD is aiming to improve thermal turbomachinery, develop concepts for renewable energy and enhance the understanding of fluid mechanic phenomena. To achieve these goals efficiently, the TFD is organized into 5 research groups

which work on public funded research projects as well as in collaboration with national and international industry partners.

For students the TFD offers basic and advanced courses in fluid mechanics as well as in-depth courses in turbomachinery and power plant engineering, both conventional and renewable. In addition to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Seume these courses are held by distinguished external lecturers from the turbomachine industry and other research organizations.
