Opening-Symposium postponed to 2021
After conscientious consideration of the development of the ongoing worldwide COVID19-Pandemic including persistent worldwide travel restrictions, we made the difficult decision to reschedule our opening symposium planned for November 3rd 2020 to the second half of the year 2021.
We will publish the new event date as soon as possible on our website.
Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics
The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics – TFD (formerly Institute of Turbomachinery) is part of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The head of the institute since 2000 is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume.
At this time, the institute has more than 30 research assistants, collaborating with additional 22 additional employees in the machine shop and administration. The TFD is currently working to improve thermal turbomachinery, develop concepts for renewable energy and enhance the understanding of fluid mechanic phenomena. To achieve these goals efficiently, the TFD is organized into 5 research groups:
- Aeroacoustics and Aeroelasticity
- Axial Turbines
- Axial Compressors
- Turbochargers and Centrifugal Compressors
- Multiphysics of Turbulent Flows
which work on public funded research projects, as well as in collaboration with national and international industry partners.
For students, the TFD offers basic and advanced courses in fluid mechanics, as well as in-depth courses in turbomachinery and wind turbines. In addition to F. Herbst, J. Runkel, and Prof. Seume these courses are held by distinguished external lecturers from the turbomachinery industry and other research organizations.
