Research Project

Compact Electrically Driven Compressors for Active Flow Control in High Lift Systems

Increasing the lift of future civil aircrafts is the overall goal of the Coordinated Research Centre SFB 880. Active flow control at the wings is possible through boundary layer suction at the flaps and tangentially blowing to utilize the coanda effect. For this purpose, compact electrically driven compressors with a high power density are required. These are investigated in the sub-project B4. The overall compressor system is designed by means of automatic optimization methods which are also validated experimentally.
