Turbulence modelling above anisotropic roughness
The influence of rough surfaces on the aerodynamic behaviour of blades is important in turbomachinery. Real rough surfaces, found on manufactured and used blades, are complicated to describe and be therefor be parameterised for non-scale-resolving simulations (e.g. RANS). To develop a better approach to describe the influence of real rough surfaces on the flow, the roughness is decomposed into their isotropic and anisotropic components. For the irregular, isotropic components which has no repeating structure of the roughness a classical equivalent sand-grain parameterisation is used. To describe the regular, anisotropic roughness components, a new parameterisation is developed. Both parameter sets are then used to develop a new turbulence model for RANS-simulations.
