Research Project

AG Turbo „Innovative Steam Turbine Blade Path for High Performance Density“

The change of the energy market in respect to renewable energy sources leads to changing requirements related to conventional power plants, e.g. faster starting periods. The AG Turbo Project “Innovative Steam Turbine Blade Path for High Performance Density” raises the performance density of turbine without gaining a significant lower power output. This gives the opportunity of a shorter rotor and therefore the possibility of a faster starting period or load change. Furthermore, a numerical optimization of the implemented endwall contour is fulfilled to keep the losses due to the higher performance density as low as possible. Detailed measurements are done at the TFD test rig. These measurements of a 4-stage turbine are performed with the optimized blades as well as without optimization. Moreover, measurements are accompanied with CFD-Simulations.
