Competences / Skills
At the workshop of the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD), a variety of machine tools are in place. The spectrum of machines ranges from simple box column drills, to manually and CNC-controlled engine lathes, milling machines, grinding machines and a multi-axle CNC machining center. This machine park enables the employees to manufacture very complex components. The workshop is fundamental part of the manufacturing chain and fits seamlessly between the "dimensioning" and the “implementing” at the test rigs. The TFD workshop employees are professionally qualified in blade manufacturing for compressor and turbines blades, axial machines as well as prospective radial machines. They are additionally qualified in manufacturing different flow probes. Samples of in-house manufactured blade profiles and flow probes are depicted on the right hand side. A wide range of tasks can be accomplished using the broad skills of the employees (foreman, technicians, precision mechanics, and electronics technicians).
The field of vocational education of technical specialists is also an important field at the Leibniz Universität. The workshop allows a 3-4 year lasting vocational education (precision) for 4-6 technical trainees simultaneously. The spectrum of tasks and works is very multi-faceted and rich in variety, due to the research and development operations undertaken here at the TFD.
