Niklas Maroldt receives the Dr. Jürgen and Irmgard Ulderup Prize for his dissertation

Niklas Maroldt receives the Dr. Jürgen and Irmgard Ulderup Prize for his dissertation. The foundation awards prizes for outstanding research work at selected universities and institutions that are linked to the biographies of the two founders - including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The prize was awarded on March 25, 2024 at a ceremony at the new Mechanical Engineering Campus Garbsen - appropriately enough - in the Ulderup Lecture Hall. In addition to our TFD prizewinner, three other PhD theses as well as Bachelor's and Master's theses from various disciplines were honored.

In his dissertation entitled "Aeroelastic effects of blade-rotor interaction in a 1 ½-stage axial compressor", he investigated the influence of additional damping from the rotor bearing and showed for the first time that this can affect the vibration behavior of the turbomachinery blading. He carried out extensive numerical and experimental observations, which ultimately confirmed his research hypothesis. The blade-rotor interaction can lead to a considerable reduction in vibration amplitudes, which holds future potential for aerodynamic design and can be used for the development of modern engines.

Congratulations on your great achievement Niklas!
