Collaborative Research Center 871

In collaboration with twelve institutes across three faculties at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, the scientific foundations of regeneration have been explored at Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 871 "Regeneration of Complex Capital Goods" since 2010. One of the aims is to develop processes for repairing and restoring the functional properties of individual components and entire capital goods or, where possible, even improving them. Civil aircraft engines serve as an application example.

Description

Research Approach of CRC 871

The research combines experimental repair methods with model-based evaluation methods that precisely determine the functional benefits of regenerated components.

Areas of Application and Transferability

Civil aircraft engines serve as a technical reference example, as their components are highly complex and interact strongly with one another. The findings can also be applied to other complex capital goods such as gas turbines, wind turbines, and rail vehicles.
