Working groups at the Institute for Turbomachinery and Fluid Mechanics

Research at the Institute for Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics is divided into four working groups that deal with the various components of modern turbomachinery and fluid dynamics phenomena.

More information

Aeroacoustics/aeroelasticity and wind energy

The Aeroacoustics & Aeroelasticity and Wind Energy Working Group deals with current issues in the fields of acoustics and vibration mechanics of fluid flow machines.

Multiphysics of turbulent flows

The Multiphysics of Turbulent Flows Working Group investigates the influence of turbulent and transitional flow effects on the aerodynamics of turbomachinery.

Turbine

The Turbine Working Group deals with aerodynamic issues in the field of multi-stage axial turbines. The working group uses extensive experimental test facilities and a wide variety of software packages for flow simulations.

Compressor

The Compressor Working Group investigates active and passive measures for influencing flow in order to reduce losses, increase efficiency, and expand characteristic maps. With regard to passive measures, one focus of research is on surface structures.
