Welcome to the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD)
The TFD at Leibniz Universität Hannover, headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume, offers a wide range of research areas and courses. The main areas of research are thermal turbomachinery, renewable energy concepts and classical fluid mechanics.
Aeroacoustics/aeroelasticity and wind energy
The aeroacoustics & Aeroelastics and Wind Energy working group deals with current issues in the fields of acoustics and the vibration mechanics of turbomachinery.
Axial turbine
The axial turbine working group deals with aerodynamic issues in the field of multi-stage axial turbines. The working group uses extensive experimental test facilities and various software packages for flow simulations.
Axial compressor
The compressor working group investigates active and passive measures for influencing the flow in order to reduce losses, increase efficiency and extend the characteristic map. With regard to passive measures, one research focus is on surface structures.
Multiphysics of turbulent flows
The multiphysics of turbulent flows working group is investigating the influence of turbulent and transitional flow physics effects on the aerodynamics of turbomachinery.
Turbocharger & radial compressors
The turbochargers and radial compressors working group is investigating ways of making next-generation vehicles more economical or ensuring the energy supply of tomorrow. One research focus is on the charging of fuel cells.
Cooperations
The TFD has a wide range of research partners and collaborations that strengthen our institute and advance our research and education mission - from international companies to regional organizations. Click here for an overview.
