Study Abroad
Spending part of your studies at a foreign university is not only an important criterion in applying for your first job, but also enriches your personality and expands your own horizons. For this reason, the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD) offers students at Leibniz Universität Hannover the opportunity to draw upon the contacts and cooperations of the institute for a stay abroad.
For studying abroad,TFD offers various opportunities and programs. On the following pages, interested students are given an overview of the programs, the requirements and further information about their stay abroad.

Europa (Erasmus+)
The ERASMUS + program is initiated and funded by the European Union (EU). The program offers students the opportunity to study abroad within Europe. The tuition fees at the foreign university will be not applied and a mobility grant will be awarded.
Requirements and Application Process
The ERASMUS+ contacts of TFD can be used by all students of mechanical engineering and related courses (eg industrial engineering). The basic requirement is good academic performance. Ideally, you also have worked as a student assistant at the TFD and / or have written a project thesis at the TFD.
- At the time of application, you must be enrolled at LUH and at least in the 3rd semester.
- One Erasmus + grant per degree is possible (1x Bachelor, 1x Master and 1x during the PhD).
The application deadline for the ERASMUS+ program is 15th January for the following academic year. Your application should comprise:
- Individual letter detailing both the motivation for a study abroad, as well as the reason for the chosen university
- Curriculum vitae
- Transcript of records

Generally, there are three types of recognition of lectures from other universities. Deficits in the scope of a course can be compensated by combinations of lectures. Deficits in level (university of applied sciences vs. university level) require a case-by-case decision according to the rule that the level is only too low if there are important methodological or conceptual deficits. The following types of recognition are possible:
- A lecture that was attended at a different university is also similarly structured at LUH. In this case, the percentage match (see following subsections) of the two courses decides on the recognition as a substitute performance.
- Several lectures attended at a different university correspond in total to a lecture at LUH. In this case, the percentage of agreement (see the following subsections) of the sum of the courses of the other university compared to the one course of the LUH decides on the recognition as a substitute performance.
- A lecture attended at the other university is not offered at the LUH in this manner. If the level of the lecture is considered equivalent to our standards, this course can be recognized as an elective subject.
Documents needed for verification
To verify the level of compliance, please always provide the following information and documentation:
- Provide lecture notes and/or lecture slides used as a file or hard copy.
- Indicate the books used which have been given as primary sources in the course.
- In all cases, send personal transcripts and, if applicable, testing materials, if the TFD staff member in charge advises you that the materials in the first two items do not contain sufficient information for a compliance level test.
- If the lecture notes are not available in English or German, please arrange for a translation on your own.
