Long-term deformation measurement on wind turbines using digital image correlation (optDIC)

The design of modern wind turbines is based on the consideration of aeroelastic and structural dynamic aspects. Long-term deformation measurements on wind turbines are needed to validate these design methods. In the project "optDIC", the optical measurement technique Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is further developed to enable long-term deformation measurements on wind turbines and thus reduce the lack of experimental validation data. By using suitable artificial intelligence methods, the rotor blades are to be detected in real time and the amount of data recorded is to be significantly reduced. In addition, the currently used measurement method is to be extended so that changes in wind direction can be compensated. Finally, the developed data processing and analysis methods are to be tested and evaluated by field measurements of transient deformations on a wind turbine.
